Can You Negotiate Pay For Civil Service Job?

Hello all, looking for some advice on a contempo provisional job offer in the ceremonious service. I'm an external joiner so not sure of the processes.

I applied for an SEO level policy part and following the interview I had a telephone call to say that although I was unsuccessful I passed the grade for a HEO position instead and would I be interested in joining a listing for a potential job.

Every bit the job is the same and I'm interested in a civil service career, I have said yes. I have at present been assigned a role which I have accepted online and checks have started. I don't know the details of the task area yet or the bacon. I'grand due to take a call with my line manager at some point.

My questions are:

1. Is there promise in negotiating a higher salary? I went for the SEO office every bit information technology would exist a sideways/next stride in my career progression merely the interview was a fleck of a disaster from my perspective (I was ill at the time and fumbled a lot). I know I should exist grateful for this outcome simply the HEO role is a lower bacon than even my current one. I would be happy to accept the lower function if it came to information technology but am keen to at least ask for a bit college to brand up for the drop given that I was looking for the SEO function level. Is this a good idea?

ii. Who should I inquire or hash out this with? My line director or the HR people? Has anyone had whatever success with this given that they practical / were considered for the higher role? It seems a fleck unfair to be dropped to the bottom of the salary grade below it.

3. Should I just take the task equally it is and so I don't come up beyond as greedy? I would exist a chip disappointed but maybe I tin can just use for a higher role every bit shortly every bit I can after passing probation?

1. Probably won't be able to negotiate, they will offer a suitable salary based on the location, your experiences and the job. I should say I wasn't referring to wanting the SEO salary as I have I didn't prove my worth (and you're correct, illness isn't an excuse only just sharing that in all honesty I call back I could have performed amend and shown more than worth just I didn't and that's on me). I was just wondering if I could ask for my current salary to be matched equally it's a fleck higher than the steep drop to the bottom of the HEO grade. Every bit you say, probably not so it'south about whether I retrieve it worth accepting for the future career progression or maybe trying again in the future for a better salary that matches my career progression to date.

As promised, an update. It was my LM who brought up salary expectations and they confirmed that they tin't change the fact that if y'all're external you lot start at the bottom of the band. Oh well. Hope this helps someone else looking for info on this
